SERMON SERIES: GETTING A GRIP ON LIFE

 

The words below come from two individuals wanting to get a grip on life.  They are good “Christian” people honestly struggling and desperately searching to live with integrity, freedom and passion.

 

“Lord, I am disappointed and confused with myself and the choices I am making.  I start each day with you (your Word, prayer and journaling) but I end each day living in “the flesh”.  My ways are a contradiction.  My mind is filled with conflicting thoughts.  I go from hope to doubt…from a “let’s get after it” attitude to paralyses.”  

 

“What I don't understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise.  The power of sin within me keeps sabotaging my best intentions…I obviously need help!  I realize that I don't have what it takes.  I can will it, but I can't do it.  I decide to do good, but I don't really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway.  My decisions, such as they are, don't result in actions.  Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time.”

 

These two experiences are not the exception…they’re the norm.  But when it is what’s going on in “my life” it’s hard to admit.  I mean, “What will people think?”  But the truth is that we all struggle and need help getting a grip on certain aspects of our life.  The second confession above is the words of the apostle Paul recorded in Romans 7.  Don’t think you’re the only one dealing with hurts, hang-ups or habits.  Don’t think that “this is just the way it is” either.  Help comes when we get honest and ask God for His help.

Current ABC - The Pentateuch

 

Through August 21, we will continue to strengthen the foundation of our lives with foundational truths of The Pentateuch (the first 5 books of the Bible).  Walk Through the Bible Ministries has produced a video series with Bruce Wilkinson guiding us through this study.  Each class will consist of time for video viewing followed with a time of discussion and application.  So, get ready and let’s take a walk through the Pentateuch together. 

 Jim Munsell will serve as class leader and facilitator for this series.  Lin Acuff, Cliff Hobbs and/or Doug Bailey will serve as substitute facilitators on the weeks Jim takes “a well deserved” vacation.

When: Sunday, August 7th after the worship service.

Where: Outside, behind the church

Who:  EVERYONE!!!

 

Who's up for burgers, hot dogs & homemade ice cream?  Let's gather as a family for a time of summer fun and fellowship!  Everyone is welcome!  Bring a friend!

BackYard Bible Clubs (BYBC)

 

This year’s Backyard Bible Clubs were a resounding victory! Over 50 student and adult volunteers joined in the race and dedicated over 45 hours individually to impact 3 local communities. In Kiveton Park, the Deese’s housed 25 kids daily who learned more about God’s gifts of forgiveness, life, and power. In Liberty Square, the Renfro’s housed 17 kids daily and impacted a largely Spanish-speaking community in partnership with local pastor Miguel Montenegro and his wife Maria. Volunteers also cultivated the soil for future outreach in Jefferson Township at the Meadow’s house.

            After learning about Jesus’ answer to the problems of sin and death, three children asked Jesus into their heart on Thursday. Many responded favorably and with interest. Families responded well to the Friday night block parties, where over 60 people attended in Liberty Square! All in all, this year’s Backyard Bible Clubs revealed the mission surrounding us everyday – our own neighbors and friends. God showed us that there is a multitude of people literally next door who are simply waiting to experience the love of Christ and to hear the gospel. Let us not shrink back from what we have learned and experienced, but let us continue on in confidence of the call that God has given to us!

Music Ministry Auditions

 

AUGUST AUDITIONS

 

La-la-la…  Mi-mi-mi… Twang-twang-twang…

The Worship Team will be having auditions in August, so it’s time to start warming up those vocal cords and fingers.

 

Turn-turn-turn… knob-knob-knob…

The Audio/Visual Team will be looking for some new members to help with sound, lights, and computer/powerpoint needs.

 

Hello-hello-hello…

The Host Team is also seeking some greeters to help with our services on Sunday mornings.

 

AND anyone with any interest in acting and drama, let us know.

This Month's Ministry Spotlight

 

The Renfro Family

 

Glenn Renfro serves in our Audio/Visual booth each Sunday and is the head of CCC's A/V ministry.  He is always willing and ready to give his time to serve at any event.

 

Julia Renfro has served our young children faithfully by teaching the Pre-K Sunday School class during the 9:30 am hour each Sunday.  Thank you for teaching our children about Jesus!

 

Glenn and Julia Renfro are parents of two precious little ones, Jonathon and Elizabeth. 

They are a beautiful example of the love and blessings of family.

 

Thank you both for your endless love and tireless service to our family at Crosspointe!

New Arrival!

 

Congratulations to Long and Valerie Le on the birth of their baby girl, Caroline Grace.  She was born Friday, July 15 at 12:54pm.  Caroline weighed 6 lbs, 5 oz and was 18 inches long!  Welcome, little one!!!

New Arrival!

 

 

Congratulations to Tommy and Lyn Donehower on the arrival of Thomas Maverick.  Maverick was born Saturday, July 30 at 7:14 pm.  He weighed 7 lbs, 4 oz and was 18.5 inches long. 

Currently Maverick is  at Scottish Rite hospital fighting an internal infection. Please keep Tommy, Lyn and baby Maverick in your prayers.

Crosspointe Family Forums

 

Family forums (held on the 1st Wednesday of each month) are a time for Crosspointe to come together as a church family to share experiences and insights and also to pray for church-wide concerns.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.  The next family forum will be held upstairs  (in the Life School Suite 310) on:

August 3 @ 7:00pm

Divorce Care Ministry

 

 

 

DivorceCare is a series of support groups and seminars conducted by people who understand what you are experiencing.  Most importantly, you'll learn how to deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.

DivorceCare is non-denominational and features biblical teaching for recovering from divorce and separation.

  • When: Tuesdays, 6:00pm-8:45pm

  • Where: Crosspointe Community Church (77 E. Crossville Road, Roswell, 30075), 3rd floor in the LifeSchool Suite (310)

  • Leaders: Mike & Becky Cowan

  • Schedule: 6:00pm-6:30pm Community Supper; 6:45pm-8:45pm Support Group Session

*Participants and their children are welcome to attend the Community Supper.

*Community Supper and Support Group materials are free of charge.

*Childcare provided for children birth - 5th grade.
