NEW SERMON SERIES: UNLOCK THE CODE

May 14, 21 & 28, 2006

Why a series responding to The Da Vinci Code?  People are reading, watching and responding to this bestselling book and movie.  As a result, many people across the country are motivated to engage in discussions about spiritual and historical matters.  This creates a huge opportunity to help others make informed spiritual decisions.

The purpose of this series is to help you know what you believe and why you believe it.  Mixing fact with fiction, the The Da Vinci Code makes claims that attack the very core of Christianity.  Unfortunately, many seekers and Christians believe much of what is said in the book.  In a recent survey, 53% said that the book was helpful in their spiritual growth and understanding.

Through this series you will be challenged and equipped to present the truth about who Jesus really is and the real difference a personal relationship with him makes.

This Month's Ministry Spotlight

This months Spotlight is You, the Body of Christ!

The Body of Christ Jesus; the masterful plan of God. (1Corinthians 12:27) Christ is the head, and each one of us placed here at Crosspointe, in the Body, just the way God intended it to be. (1 Corinthians 12:28). Isn’t that exciting to know you are not here by chance or accident but by God’s own great design! A huge THANK YOU to each one; old and young alike, male or female, who has and who continues to utilize God given gifts and talents here at Crosspointe. You are a vital part in the building up and edification of Crosspointe’s Body for Kingdom purposes. (1 Corinthians 12: 4-6) No part of the Body or function being greater or lesser than any other, but in perfect harmony unified through the Holy Spirit. ( 1 Corinthians 12:21-25) God bless you as you serve and strive to continue developing your unique personal gifting through the expression of service.

“I thank God every time I remember you.” Philippians 1:3

*This Sunday (5/7/06), please join us as we honor YOU with a special Servant Appreciation Luncheon

immediately following the 10:45am worship service!

Just our way of saying "THANK YOU" for your faithful service!

Ledford Ministry Update

Peggy and I moved back to the Atlanta area some years ago to work with Grace Ministries International.  We agreed with great determination that it would be wise to look at a number of churches before settling into one.  We had only visited a couple of churches before coming to   Crosspointe.  At this point our plan for finding a home church went out the window.  It was love at first visit.  We never visited any more churches!  We just knew from the Lord that this was home.  It still is.

Six years ago the CCC family chose to be our sending church and commissioned us to represent Christ’s message and ministry of grace in Central and Eastern Europe.  It has been our privilege to minister to people from Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia, Ukraine, and Canada.

For the past five years we have lived in Ukraine.  Our purpose has been to equip people for life and service in the message and ministry of grace, and to plant a ministry planting ministry.  Here are some of the results.

  • The Exchanged Life teaching and training is fully integrated into the Bible school.
  • We have had three graduations of the Advanced Discipleship training.
  • Missionaries, pastors, church planters, SS teachers have been and are being trained.
  • The grace message being shared in the pulpit, SS & new believer classes, retreats and etc.
  • Ongoing counseling locally, nationally, and internationally; believers have come from Romania, Croatia and Russia to be ministered to.

Life Discipleship Ministry (the name of the ministry here in Ukraine) has graduated and is fully functional.  We want to Praise the Lord and thank you (our church family) for the great things He has accomplished through you.  What next?  The Ledford’s will return in mid-May to be based there to do a national and international ministry.  We do believe this will happen as we participate with Him and partner with Crosspointe Community Church.

*Crosspointe  would like to welcome the Ledfords back by providing some essential household goods to help them get settled. Please contact Joyce Whitley, 770-591-4844 or Donna Robinson, 770-993-5613 if you have any items to donate. Gift cards for places like Target & Home Depot are also appreciated.

Church Plant: Metanoia

Easter Sunday morning as the sun rose, a group of twenty-somethings stumbled out of bed and made their way to a local park for Metanoia's first "post"-sunrise service. We jokingly refer to it as a "post"-sunrise service because as we were arriving other churches were leaving. (One of which was one of our partner churches, Bethany Lane Baptist.)

Despite missing the actual sunrise, we had a wonderful time gathering to worship our risen Lord Jesus Christ. In addition to our small group, two young women whom Kim is meeting regularly with also showed up. Our worship gathering was loosely based on the Episcopal Common Book of Prayer, and consisted of singing, prayer, a brief homily on John 20 and communion.

We are excited that Metanoia is growing steadily. Please pray for Kim as she continues to meet with the two young ladies, and for our team as we begin structuring a new small group around both they and their network of friends.

Event:  South Africa Trip (July 6-22)

64 DAYS till the plane leaves for South Africa!

I hope you are as exited as I am!  I can’t wait to send back news of all that God does in Soshanguve because the people of Crosspointe were willing to send and support this team.  May God richly bless you for your prayer support, encouragement, fundraising and financial support!

In regard to fundraising & finances, here are some totals we celebrate:

Chick Filet Night -        $153

March Car Wash -       $801

April Garage Sale -       $2064.50

Harvest Offering -         $6004

$9022.50 has been raised toward our $12,000 goal.  YEAH GOD!

On going and upcoming fundraisers are as follows:

HARVEST OFFERING –

We are asking our church family to prayerfully consider the amount God would have you give, over and above your normal tithes and offerings, to help cover the cost of  ministering to over 500 children plus adults for 9 days:  We are asking God to provide $12,000.  This is a lot of money.  But, it breaks down to approximately $24 per child / $2.66 per day – to cover their lunches, craft supplies, game supplies, storytelling supplies, candy & other misc. gifts, T-shirts and additional recreational equipment. As Mastercard would say, “T-Shirts - $2,000 / Lunches - $4,000 / One Soul, Saved for all eternity – Priceless!”

If you were not with us at Crosspointe last Sunday to take part in this special offering, it is not to late to give.  Make your check payable to Crosspointe Community Church and place it in an envelope marked “South Africa Mission Trip” and place it in the offering plate on Sunday or drop it by the church office any time.

KRISPY KREME CARD SALE –

IF YOU LIKE DONUTS – HAVE WE GOT A DEAL FOR YOU!

$10 buys you a card allowing you to “Buy 1 doz., Get 1 doz. Free” – 10 times

This saves you $43.  Contact Michelle Meadows – (770)641-9765.

CAR WASH –

Saturday, May 13th, 9:00-1:00, in the front parking lot of CCC.

If you’d like to help, contact Corie Nielson – (770)640-9959.

Nursery/PreSchool Ministry

Equipping Volunteers

Jesus never sends us out unprepared.  Just before He ascended into heaven, He told his disciples to wait until the Holy Spirit filled them before they began witnessing at home and far away.  (Acts 1:8).  In Ephesians, Paul writes that there are different jobs for each person, but the overall goal is “…for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.”  (Eph 4:12).  We are imitating Christ in equipping our Children’s Ministry volunteers.  One Sunday each month, we’ll meet for a brief instruction in one aspect of ministry.  In April, the topic was safety in the classroom.  In May, we’ll examine our drop-off and pick-up procedures.  Please join us MAY 7 or 21 immediately following the worship service for a short (20-minute) discussion.  I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Dee Chatham, Preschool Ministry Director
